CH 4 section 2:
1. The factors that define a culture are language, religion, social groups, government, economy, and cultural regions.
2. The developments of new idea, lifestyles, and inventions have affected interaction between cultures in recent years. Also, trade, migration, and war can bring these developments.
Creative Writing: If the information revolution had not occured, cultures throughout the world would not be nearly as linked as they are today. My day would consist of going to school, comming home and doing my homework, eating, and sleeping. That would be different than today because we would not know much about the other countries around the world, all our homework would be on paper, and there would be less trees worldwide.
CH 4 section 3:
1. The differences between the major types of national government in the world today are some give all their key powers to the national or central government and some divide the powers of government between the national government and state governments.
2. Examples of the major types of economic systems in the world are traditional economies, market economies, and command economies. Capitalism is an example of a market economy, and communism and socialism are examples of command economies.
Creative Writing: The advantages of living within a democratic government system and a market economy are indiciduals and private groups make decisions on what to produce and there is no central power. Also, people, as shoppers, choose what products they will or will not buy, and businesses make more of what they believe people will buy. However, some disadvantages are that governments in modern mixed economies also influence their economies by spending tax revenues to support social services.
CH 4 section 4:
1. A major factor in determining a country’s economic development and trade relationships is its resources. Countries specialize in the economic activities best suited to thier resources.
2. Human economic activities have affected the environment by releasing toxic elements into the air, water, and land.
Creative Writing: I disagree with the statement that “only developed countries need to replace their dependence on fossil fuels with the use of renewable energy resources.” All countries need to replace their dependance on fossil fuels with the use of renewable energy sources because once they are gone, we will never be able to get them back.
