Chapter 13 homework

CH 13 section 1:
1.Major economic changes are taking place in Europe because of technology, manufacturing and agriculture lolz.
     2. Since the fall of communism, outdated equipment and lack of incentive resulted in low crop yields. Since the change to democracy, private ownership of land and food production has risen.
Creative Writing: I agree with the statement - it is more important for nations to develop more efficient communications systems than to develop more efficient transportation systems. Some barriers like mountains cant be broken down, its just impossible. Europe needs to focus on connecting these places through technology instead of thorough roads and transportation systems.

CH 13 section 2:
1.Over-farming, removing too much vegetation and building cities using many trees has affected Europe's environment.
2.The EU has helped protect the environment using power plants that burn natural gas instead of lignite coal. The EU has also built buildings with acid-resistant coatings.
Creative Writing: I disagree with that statement about the EU laws. People need to pitch in too and not destroy the environment and use it up slowly. People need to think twice about how much water they use during the day and how much electricity they use up per month. The laws can only do so much, but its the people that can make the biggest difference.

Chapter 12 homework

Chapter 12 section 1:
1.Immigration over the past 100 years has influenced populations in Northern Europe because since islands have welcomed immigrant communities, the populations have increased.
2.Large areas of harsh terrain or climate has led to people living along the coast.
Creative Writing: The advantages of living in a welfare state is that you get excellent health care and complete social welfare programs funded by the government. A disadvantage/advantage is that you have to go to school for at least 10 years.

CH 12 section 2:
     1. Religions have effected the history and government of Western Europe because of World War II, the Roman Empire, and the Crusades.
     2. Because of WWII, immigration has led to urban growth. Immigrants have moved to cities for new opportunities.
Creative Writing: The fact that Western Europe provides medical care, maternity and retirement benefits, and other services, the population in Western Europe is aging, with declining birthrates and death rates. This is good in the short term, but not in the long term. Western Europe faces diminishing resources and over population. The problem is that they aren't just going to cut off these resources so the population wont grow as fast because that is just to controversial.

CH 12 ection 3:
1.Because immigration has outpaced emigration, many people are moving to urban areas. More people live along around the coast too.
2.Most people in Southern Europe share the same kind of education, sports, and religion-Roman Catholic.
Creative Writing: During the ancient Rome period, advances that remain today were made. Breakthroughs in government and law effected Europe today. Its capitals have made these places popular tourist destinations. the Renaissance gave people the freedom to study, and pursue new ways of thinking.
